Elise Hua Unsolved Puzzles
This album is about the questions I have about life. The topics include physical phenomena, psychology, animals and human behaviour. On the road to find the answers, I found that life is full of contradictions and ambivalence, in which opposite dualities exist everywhere. Since many questions remain unanswered, this album is titled as “Unsolved Puzzles”.

Each track was released as single between November 2024 and August 2025. All the cover designs of these singles are jigsaw puzzles, and of course, all of them are “unsolved”.

Elise Hua: Composer, lyricist, sound synthesis, effects, keyboard, vocals and producer. All tracks are written by Elise Hua (Yi-Hsin Hua).

Released on August 25, 2025.

Elise Hua Animus Meus

Animus Meus

Reviewing Carl Jung’s analytical psychology about animus and anima, animus represents the inner masculine part of the female personality. I wrote this track thinking about my animus.

Elise Hua The Rhythm of Budapest

The Rhythm of Budapest

I visited Budapest in 2015, and took the Metro Line M1 in the city, the oldest underground in continental Europe. There was a peculiar rhythm I felt. For example, the sound of the metro car doors opening and closing was particularly powerful and tidy, and the intensive traffic formed a particular sound pattern. Even the escalators in the metro station were moving very fast. I had to count the beats in mind in order to step firmly. This strange sense of rhythm is something I had never experienced in any other cities. It has become a mystery in my mind.

I personally think it was very similar to the movie "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (this movie was new at that time). The whole movie was also progressing with a special rhythm.

This track was finished in June 2025. Please note that it has been ten years. This track was created based on my personal memory and imagination, and does not necessarily represent the actual soundscape of Budapest.

Elise Hua Play This Game

Play This Game

Life is like a game and making decisions in life is like gambling, which is full of contradictions. People put their expectations on tiny possibilities, but on the other hand cannot tolerate the uncertainty. People tend to choose the known risk instead of the unknown. Similar to games, people make up rules in life. It is love that always breaks the rules.

Lyrics

This irreversible game
I cannot reject
I cannot escape
I have to play this gambling game

Expectations are addictive
Addicted to the tiny probability
Not possible to turn down the opportunity
The opportunity for what is alternative
Alternate the rules to be tolerative
The intolerance for ambiguity
Feared for the risk
You rather escape
from the unknown to the known risk

Here are the rules
Follow the rules
What breaks the rules is love
Love breaks the rules
That’s the new rule

Elise Hua In Waves

In Waves

I often think about the concept of wave-particle duality. It seems that the fluctuations in the outside world affect us, and our every behavior also affects our surroundings. There are fluctuations at all times, and our instincts, energy, emotions, needs and desires fluctuate like being in waves, high or low, very obscure but omnipresent.

Elise Hua Chiron's Wound

Chiron's Wound

In Greek mythology, Chiron was the wise healer who suffered an incurable wound. He is also the symbol of “wounded healer” in psychology. I found metaphors of wounded healers in many notable stories, in some of which the images of them are scary. It is fascinating to find the contradiction and necessity of the coexistence of evil and healing sides. As I create this track, I imagine the fear of trauma and the process and power of healing.
